Description
Provides direct implementation, consultation and monitoring of occupational therapy intervention for students with moderate, severe and profound mental retardation across domains and environments as related to IEP goals/objectives and other school programs; provides training in a wide variety of community-based settings, which may require using public transportation or driving a county vehicle. Completes assessments of students to obtain current levels of functioning and need to assist in the development of the IEP and related school programming; assessments may include, but are not limited to ADL (dressing/eating/toileting), mobility (wheelchair), posture, reflexes and fine/gross motor; assessments may be completed in school and community environment. Evaluates need for the fabricates orthotic devices; fits and instructs in use of prostheses; develops and maintains occupational therapy equipment. Plans, reviews, selects and maintains therapeutic equipment and materials for use in the assigned learning environment; requests, secures and follows up on medical information relative to the occupational therapy plan. Maintains the assigned environment in a condition which is conducive for learning and free of health and safety hazards. Participates as a member of the transdisciplinary team working with other professional staff in assessing, developing, implementing, evaluating and modifying the Individual Educational Plan/Classroom based Occupational Therapy Program. Prepares and maintains written records and reports as required on, but not limited to, student assessments, program objectives and progress data for regular evaluations and for revision of the Individual Educational Plan/Classroom based Occupational Therapy Program. Provides consultation services with instructors, parents, guardians and/or others to promote generalization of developed skills. May perform delegated nursing tasks and/or procedures. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution with major coursework in OT; one year of experience preferred; must be able to lift, bend, push and pull up to 50 pounds; OT License – State of Ohio OT & PT Board; OT Certification – Ohio Department of Education; valid Ohio Driver's License – Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
